چکیده
A review of the use of millimetre wave radar for robotic applications is presented. The paper includes a brief overview of the different radar and scanner technologies that are available and finishes with a review of some of the techniques that can be used to represent and use radar data.

Selective Pyroelectric Detection of Millimetre Waves Using Ultra-Thin Metasurface Absorbers.
Sensing infrared radiation is done inexpensively with pyroelectric detectors that generate a temporary voltage when they are heated by the incident infrared radiation. Unfortunately the performance of these detectors deteriorates for longer wavelengths, leaving the detection of, for instance, millimetre-wave radiation to expensive approaches. We propose here a simple and effective method to enh...
متن کاملDetection of polarized mm and sub - mm emission from Sgr A ⋆
We report the detection of linear polarization from Sgr A⋆ at 750, 850, 1350 and 2000μm which confirms the contribution of synchrotron radiation. From the lack of polarization at longer wavelengths it appears to arise in the millimetre/sub-millimetre excess. There are large position angle changes between the millimetre and sub-millimetre results and these are discussed in terms of a polarized d...
متن کاملEvaluation and Analysis of Bit Error Rate due to propagation mechanisms of millimetre waves in a QAM system
The waves falling in the 40GHz to the 100GHz band in the electromagnetic spectrum are referred to as millimetre waves. Due to the large bandwidth availability, these high data-rate signals find a wide range of applications in modern communication technology such as broadband multimedia wireless systems and 4G cellular communications. Achieving a reduced Bit Error Rate (BER) of around 10 for hig...
متن کاملTerrain Imaging and Perception using Millimetre Wave Radar
This paper presents an overview of the work being conducted by the Australian Centre for Field Robotics (ACFR) and the CRC for Mining Technology and Equipment (CMTE) into sensors and systems for real-time environment imaging. Radar is perhaps the only sensor capable of performing imaging tasks in environments where high levels of dust, water vapour, and rain must be contended with. Methods of v...
متن کاملALMA Memo # 533 * Improving Accuracy of Superconducting Microstrip Line Modelling at Millimetre and Sub - Millimetre Waves
This paper presents a new model to calculate the characteristic impedance and wave propagation constant of a microstrip line made of a superconducting material. Modelling provides the only tool for designing superconducting microstrip based circuits because no direct measurements of such a line can be made at millimetre and sub-millimetre waves and at cryogenic temperature of 4 K with required ...
